The Jazz Messengers were an iconic hard bop jazz band led by legendary drummer Art Blakey. Formed in the mid-1950s, the group became a launching pad for many of the greatest jazz musicians, including Horace Silver, Wayne Shorter, Lee Morgan, Freddie Hubbard, and Wynton Marsalis.

Blakey used the Messengers not only as a performance group but also as a sort of "school" for young jazz talent. Their music was known for its powerful rhythms, bluesy feel, and sophisticated arrangements—characteristics that helped define the hard bop style.
