Time After Time is a classic standard written in 1947 by Sammy Cahn (lyrics) and Jule Styne (music). Over the years it became part of the Great American Songbook, recorded by Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Chet Baker and many others.
This version was recorded on February 7, 1963 in New York for the album Samba Para Dos, a collaboration between pianist-arranger Lalo Schifrin and valve trombonist Bob Brookmeyer. The session brought together an all-star ensemble, including Zoot Sims, Al Cohn, Phil Woods, Jerome Richardson, Leo Wright, Frank Rehak, Ben Tucker, Dave Bailey, Danny Raney, José Paulo, Romeo Penque and Carmelita Koehler.
Brookmeyer’s warm valve trombone sound and lyrical phrasing give this rendition a unique depth, perfectly matched by Schifrin’s arrangements and the rich textures of the large ensemble.
